The Girl I Used to Be

Wednesday Journal Entry – Week 16

Karina Lafayette – August 10th 2022

I miss her. She was naïve and carefree. She’d make bad decisions without thinking twice and somehow always got her way. Before the tattoos, before the heartbreak, there was a girl who believed everything was possible.

She had never been in a relationship, and neither was she looking for one. Rather it was love that found her, or so she thought.

Femininity Has Never Been Gentle

Which Means There’s Nothing Wrong with Me

Karina Lafayette – October 2021

Rap superstar Eve once made that statement, “I’m a pitbull in a skirt”, during an interview with Oprah. It’s also a line in her song, “What Ya Want”. I was a teenager when the episode aired, and that quote resonated with me in such a deep way, I haven’t changed my mind about it since.

Because I’ve always seen myself as a pitbull, a very girly, introverted, makeup-loving pitbull, which apparently confuses people.

When They Call You a Witch, Say Thank You

Karina Lafayette – November 2021

The world tried very hard to make me ashamed of myself. It labelled me all kinds of ways in order to put me back in my place. I’ve been called every insult in the book, as much as I’ve been called “nice”, “pretty”, “beautiful”, and “smart”. But if there is one word that seems to be weaponized the most, it’s also the word that ironically can be used as a synonym for powerful.

And that word is “witch”.

The Astrological Link Between Stranger Things and the West Memphis Three

Wednesday Journal Entry – Week 15

Karina Lafayette – August 3rd 2022

Does history repeat itself? Do we just subconsciously relive certain lessons till we learn from them, like Carl Jung suggested? Is there some force behind everything, or is it just that humans like to link events together so much that it only looks like there’s a pattern, just because the chaos would be too overwhelming to accept?

As someone who’s been into astrology for a while, even I still don’t know what the answer is. Sometimes I like to think that life is random, but other times, I know there has to be more to it. In order to really make sense of the direction this piece is heading, we need to take a bit of a trip in time to May 5th 1993.

Make Way for the Diva: New Moon in Leo 2022

Karina Lafayette – July 28th 2022

What are you willing to stand for, even if it means risking to stand alone? What is something you’re so passionate about, that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks? There comes a time, where we need to ask ourselves whether we’re really living in our truth, or just pandering to other people’s approval. Having friends and admirers is great, but that means very little if it comes at the expense of your integrity.

I Almost Quit Spirituality, Here’s Why

Wednesday Journal Entry, Week 14

Karina Lafayette – July 27th 2022

When a few people I was familiar with began leaving the New Age Community, I was shocked. I couldn’t understand why they’d leave behind something beautiful, where people seemed so generous and welcoming. And even though today I still don’t agree with the direction that some of them went in, I actually get it. Apparently, you really can have too much of a good thing.

Like Lilith, I Took my Own Virginity

Wednesday Journal Entry, Week 13 ½

Karina Lafayette – July 20th 2022

I know what you’re thinking.

You’re probably wrong though.

When Lilith left Adam, I like to think she got well “acquainted” with herself. I like to think she learned about her body and what it enjoyed and was able to fulfill her needs without having to wait for the right person to come along. I like to think she learned self-love, so that way the right person was just a bonus.

Lies the New Age Community Told You

Wednesday Journal Entry, Week 13

Karina Lafayette – July 20th 2022

Over the years, our views on spirituality and what it means to be spiritual have shifted. Instead of having to follow of specific religion or ideology, people can pick and choose whatever works for them like when you’re at a buffet. However, the New Age Community definitely has its flaws and whatever it lacks in terms of dogma, it sometimes makes up for in really questionable ways.

There’s this mindset that being spiritual means that somehow you’re not like everyone else, or that other people are wrong for not being interested in the occult. There’s also this belief that every little thing that happens is your fault, even though in reality life can also sometimes be random. On the flip side, we think that if someone hurts others, they’re going to pay for it in the next life.

When Your Future Meets the Past: Surviving the Nodal Opposition

Karina Lafayette – April 30th 2020

As I write this, right now the world is in crisis, putting everyone into hermit mode while we await for the next chapter to begin. It’s currently April 30th 2020, at 1:10am Eastern, and a Thursday. I’m an INFJ, I live for privacy and quiet. The days have somehow blended but it’s nice to be reminded by having some structure. People have learned how to be more kind, considerate, nurturing, patient and creative. Somehow overnight the world has become like the Great Mother that is the sign of Cancer, where the North Node has been transiting for the past year and a half.

Here’s to Growing Up: Full Moon in Capricorn 2022

Karina Lafayette – July 13th 2022

Growing pains can be painful in some ways, but they can also be beautiful. Like the butterfly emerging from its cocoon, at some point your wings are finally ready. Did you know that if a butterfly gets help out of its cocoon, it can die? The reason being because of all the strength that gets built through working its way out. In some way, there’s a situation a lot of us are emerging from, and we’re coming out stronger and better than before. Now, this doesn’t mean that we have to do everything on our own- society encourages the bootstrap mindset, making it so most people struggle in situations that they could’ve otherwise come out of faster if it wasn’t for the lack of resources. But every now and then, the universe puts us to the test.
